Title: 'It's spiritual, man': Eddie the Eagle and English amateurismAuthor: ROBINSON, Matthew Article type: ArticleLanguage: English
Description: Discusses 'Eddie the Eagle' (2016), a biopic about the British ski-jumper Eddie 'the Eagle' Edwards who finished in last place in his competition at the 1988 Winter Olympics. Places the film within the wider tradition of affection for amateurism in English culture, as reflected in a number of biographical films, and considers it in relation to concerns over corruption and increasing professionalisation in organised sport.
